Talks and Debates
Through our talks and debates, the Cal Poly Alliance of Happy Atheists fosters discussion and examination of issues related to rationalism, skepticism and the role of religion in society. Due to the support of national organizations, including the Secular Student Alliance, we are able to regularly host nationally known speakers, journalists and activists. Some of the past speakers we’ve hosted include:
- Author David G. McAfee
- Journalist Ted Cox
- Former minister, activist and author Dan Barker
- Blogger and Activist “The Friendly Atheist” Hemant Mehta
Videos of some of these talks are available on our media page.
Apart from speakers, we’ve also worked with local and campus groups to hold panel debates featuring students, faculty and community members on topics including the existence of god.
Like with all else that we do we welcome people of all backgrounds and beliefs to attend our talks and debates. If you disagree with a speaker, journalist or activist, what better opportunity is there to let them know how you feel?
We’re working hard to bring speakers with relevance to the secular community to Cal Poly. If there is someone you would like to see speak, or a topic relating to secularism, rationalism or skepticism that you would like to see covered, please contact us.
